There was something I needed to do, something that was tugging at my heart, a way to help somehow with my photography...but how and what was it? I felt the need was to help families and/or kids somehow... I was sure that I would be led to how at the right time. While at Sebring Raceway recently, I took notice to a car that was very unique and stood out from all the other cars that were racing around the track that weekend. Alot of the race cars have wraps or special paint jobs to make their cars stand out, but this one was different... As I got a closer look I noticed the paint job was done by hand. I had to learn more about this and the story behind it. What I found out was that the car was in fact painted by hand....BY KIDS! And not just any kids, kids with Cancer! Wow.... I HAD to find out more now. Well there is a non-profit group called Zoeller Ministries Inc. (Kids Racing For Life) that has a yearly event for kids with Cancer. They put together an event for these kids that allows them a once in a lifetime experience of riding in a real race car. The kids and their families are able to attend by donations and for some this is the only vacation that they get. Getting the chance to ride in a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Porsche, just to name a few is a treat in itself and not something that everyone gets to do in their lifetime. This is amazing, am I right?! Here's a video from one of their events from a few years ago. In addition to riding in cars on the track at Sebring Raceway, they also get to paint a race car. The photos here are of last year's car. They already have another car lined up for this year so I can't wait to see what the kids come up with. After finding out more about this event and group, I knew this is where I needed to offer my photography services. So I will be photographing the kids, the families as well as the staff that puts all of this together, to help share their stories and visions and am excited to be a part of it! This year's event will take place at Sebring International Raceway and will be held on September 11, 12 & 13.
If you would like to find out more or know how you could help, click here. The kids and their families would greatly appreciate it I'm sure! You can also show your support on their Kids Racing For Life Facebook page. Whew, what a way to start off my Blog! = ) Make sure to check back here for my updated blog after the event in September! = ) Jen
